How to Wall Mount a Flatscreen TV

How to Wall Mount a Flatscreen TV

Why lose all that floor or countertop space, when the TV can be mounted to the wall. This is often a more comfortable viewing position for your TV too. Follow our simple steps to wall mount your flat screen TV quickly and easily.

Step 1

Assemble Required Items

You will need wall brackets and fixings to suit your specific TV. A wall mounting kit is sometimes provided with the TV; otherwise you will be able to purchase this in your local Topline store. There are many different types available so it is a good idea to test fit the bracket mount to the back of the TV while it’s still on the ground or a table. Ensure the bracket fits correctly and does not cover any important ports.

Step 2

Select Position

When selecting a position on the wall where you can mount your TV, you must consider the following four points: the proximity to electrical outlet, the proximity to TV signal line, if the wall is solid and strong for mounting the TV and not in direct light. Use a stud finder to locate the timber studs behind the plasterboard, and fix the brackets there for strength. You can mark the positions with a pencil or stick some paper in the spots as shown. If the wall is solid, use the extra-large wall plugs that come with most bracket kits.

Step 3

Drill Holes

Consult the instruction manual that came with the TV brackets and drill the pilot holes in the correct positions in the wall according to its recommendations.

Step 4

Screw in First Screw

Screw the top screw into the correct position.

Step 5

Check Level

Use the spirit level to ensure the bracket is mounted perfectly vertically.

Step 6

Assemble Mounting Bracket

Continue to mount and assemble the mounting bracket, making sure its placement is solid.

Step 7

Fit Pieces to TV

Attach the bracket pieces to the mount points on the rear of the TV and tighten firmly.

Step 8

Mount TV

Most TV brackets work with a top rail and a locking bottom rail. Hook the TV over the top rail and push the bottom of the bracket into place, ensuring the rail locks are engaged.
